About the Fruit
Growing in the central deserts and throughout WA’s wheatbelt region, the vibrant red fruit of the quandong has been a staple for the Aboriginal people for over 50,000 years. Traditionally, the dried fruit was an important substitute for meat during times when food was scarce, due to its nutritional value containing high levels of protein, iron, zinc, complex oils and vitamin C, while the kernel contains powerful antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties making it a valuable medicine plant for treating skin conditions and rheumatism.
